How To Ride A Hoverboard For The First Time - Our Guide | Electric Future UK

Compared to scooters and skateboards, hoverboards are a fairly new trend. It was created in 2013, and soon after, its popularity significantly grew as it piqued the interest of teens and young adults who are interested in this fun and convenient mode of transportation. Even those who had no idea how to ride hoverboards got them. The good news is that riding a hoverboard is actually not that hard whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart.

If you are thinking about getting an adult hoverboard and you want to know how to ride one before you get it, you’re in the right place. This guide will get you gliding on your board confidently real soon:

Safety Reminders

Before you hop onto your hoverboard, know that there’s always the possibility of falling to the ground whether you’re new to it or experienced. To make sure that you won’t be seriously hurt, make sure that you wear safety gear. Here are some that you should get at once:

  • A helmet
  • Elbow pads
  • Knee pads
  • Wrist guards
  • Padded clothing (good to wear while you’re practising)

Some hoverboards have LED lights that are perfect for when you’re riding in the dark, but if yours doesn’t have lights, make sure that you have reflectors or simply don’t ride in low-light areas.

Find a Safe Practice Spot

Since you don’t know how to ride your hoverboard yet, it’s best to find a practice spot where there’s no foot traffic and no vehicles passing by that could put you or others in danger. It would also be much better to practice in your home or garage if you have space.

How to Ride a Hoverboard

Now let’s move on to the most important part: how to ride your hoverboard. The most challenging part might be getting on the board. Here are the steps you should follow:

  1. Place your hoverboard on an even surface. It’s easier to balance on a flat surface, especially when you’re just starting.

  1. Turn the hoverboard on. The hoverboard has a self-balancing gyroscope that will assist you. But the hoverboard needs to first be activated to use this feature.

  1. Place one foot at a time. Put one foot first and when you put your second foot on the board, make sure to keep a wide stance for better balance.

  1. Stay upright on the board by standing still. Find your balance first before you start riding. Once you get this down, you can start riding your hoverboard.

Moving Forward and Backward

The first moves you need to learn are how to move forward and backwards. To go forward, you should lean your toes forward with the use of your ankles but keep your waist straight for balance. To move backwards, lean the heel slightly backwards. Make sure you practice these moves before you try turning.

Turning

When you’re confident with the forward and backward moves, you can start practising your turns. It’s all about balance and knowing how to shift your weight properly. To turn left, lean on the right toe. As you do, the weight will begin to shift in the direction you want to go. When you lean on the right toes, you should keep the left foot still and ever so slightly lean towards the left direction. Just do the opposite for turning right.

Stopping and Getting Off the Hoverboard

To stop, slowly straighten your back, and then lean back slightly. This will slow you down, and when it’s slow enough, you can simply hop off.

Spinning

This is an advanced move that you can do when you’ve already mastered all the other moves. You simply do what you do when turning until you complete a full circle and do it over and over.

Conclusion

A heavy-duty hoverboard can get you around the neighbourhood or the city without even needing to take your car out. It’s an environment-friendly mode of transportation and a great way to practice your balance and keep your core strong as well. Of course, it is essential to ensure that you know how to ride it safely before you head out. Practising until you master it can also help ensure that you won’t get hurt while riding your hoverboard. Likewise, be sure to use the necessary safety gear because it is crucial to your safety!
